Who we are

The Iowa African Film Festival (“IAFF”, “we”, “us”) is organised by the Kuona Foundation in Des Moines, Iowa. This policy explains how we handle personal information across our website and festival operations. Questions? Email info@africalivenetwork.tv.

Information we collect

  • Ticket purchases: your name and email, and the pass(es) you buy. Card payments are processed by Stripe — we never see or store your full card details.
  • Newsletter: your email address, when you subscribe via our site.
  • Film submissions: the entry details you provide through FilmFreeway (title, filmmaker, contact, screener links), imported for our programming committee.
  • Contact form: the name, email, and message you send us.
  • Accounts: for festival staff and committee members, an email and name used to sign in to the admin dashboard.

How we use it

We use your information to fulfil ticket orders, send you the confirmations and festival updates you ask for, evaluate film submissions, respond to your messages, and operate and improve the festival. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Service providers

We share data only with the providers that help us run the festival: Stripe (payments), Supabase (our database and authentication), Resend (transactional email), FilmFreeway (submissions), and Vercel (hosting). Each processes data on our behalf under its own terms.

Retention

We keep order and submission records for as long as needed to run the festival and meet legal and accounting obligations. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time, and you can ask us to access or delete your personal information by emailing info@africalivenetwork.tv.

Your choices

Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe option. For any request about your data — access, correction, or deletion — contact us and we'll respond promptly.
